Even after the debate, MAXimum PRYORity still firmly believes in their policies. We all agree that the other candidates had viable and creative policies, we are very proud of our own policies that we came up with. We are going to address the issue of Tech Companies and Impact on Houses. To do so, we will adjust people’s rents to their salaries and convert dangerous warehouse living spaces into more affordable housing/artist friendly spaces. There are many problems that less fortunate people have to go through to live in apartments. We plan to create programs focused on providing rental assistance, and use the talk with rental assist, and to use the “rental credits.” Oakland also has a big problem of homelessness that needs to be addressed and fixed. To do this we can give job training, education, homeless shelters and donate money to the homeless shelters. We will let tech companies come to Oakland, but they will not be allowed to buy out a used apartment building. Tech companies must set 10% of their profits aside to help build affordable housing. To be allowed to be located in Oakland, tech companies must follow these responsibilities. Tech companies must provide internships for public high school students all over Oakland, tech companies must reach out low income neighborhoods and provide training programs for them, they must have at least 50-75% diverse employees, and must provide free healthcare to struggling employees with large families. These solutions with help our community and Oakland thrive together.

In the week two debate, Max Pryor stuck to our policy ideas. For example, he stated, “... We need to educate and inform kids and teens in all schools of how they can get involved and learn how to get internships,” when asked the question, “Do you think minorities are underemployed in tech companies? Why or why not?” This relates to our policy that discusses the responsibilities that tech companies have in Oakland. This is just one example from the debate.
